Week 1 Favorite Experience

 The first week of my project has been great. I especially enjoyed Tuesday. I was able to meet with another one of my mentors, Nevio Prosen. At the beginning of my project, I thought I would be spending one week with each mentor but it has been the most effective and simple to observe when each person has had time and space for me. Mr. Prosen started college as a business major but switched halfway through to become an internet technician. I will be helping him recreate and improve the current website. During our first meeting, he gave me the necessary information on how to build a website and create traffic to the site. I learned that the website needs to be user-friendly, Proportionate for every device, and how important demographics are.

After our talk, we planned to meet again and he gave me some tasks to do in the meantime. My favorite task was researching the best place for ads on social media. To do this, I figured out how to find the age range of all of the patients using Open Dental. Then, I researched statistics on the average age of Facebook users and Instagram users. The average age of a Facebook user was closer to the average age of the patients at Lake West Dental. The question is, do you want to advertise to people of similar demographics that you already have or advertise to the younger users of Instagram in order to get a new demographic of patients? This was my favorite task that I have had to do so far. This task correlates with my business major, Data Analytics, and is something I am interested in. The website right now is not great. It is something I am passionate about and I believe I have good ideas to continue them. I am excited to continue working and progressing on this project.

    Similar to what I said in previous comment about insurance, the world of Data Analytics is always going to be growing. We have only touched the surface of what can be done in this field, so Identifying this as an area of interest and one for which you want to learn more, is a good idea. Sound like Mr. Prosen will be a good guide to learning more about the use of the website and how it might relate to data analytics.

    I like that you have made an adjustment already to make better use of the time that your 3 different mentors have to help you. Keep evolving your project as you see the need so that you can gain the most benefit from your time there.

Final Blog/Reflection

      Throughout my three weeks at Lake West Dental, I have learned a lot about business, dental hygiene, and myself. The purpose of my mentorship was to help me figure out my future. I am currently undecided as a business major going to Miami University in the fall. I was very unsure of what I wanted to do within business. As a backup plan, I wanted to become a dental hygienist. Lake West Dental gave me the opportunity to learn about both of those subjects.       I spent one week with each three of my mentors. Week one was spent with Louise Dagg. Dental Hygiene

For my second week in my Hawken Project, I started working with the dental hygienists but mostly Mrs. Loveland. The entire process was something new to me and I was very eager to learn. I started my time the dental hygiene by getting my own teeth cleaned. The process was shorter and easier than I remember it being. I learned a lot about my own teeth and it was nice to learn that there was nothing seriously wrong with my teeth. Throughout the cleaning process, she was telling me what she was doing to clean them, But also what I should be doing to prevent tartar and cavities from forming. Such as flossing more and eating less sugary foods. The entire process was simple and efficient. In the end, my teeth felt clean and I wanted to know more about the process.
